چکیده
In this study, precipitation in Tropical South America the 1931–2016 period is investigated by means of Principal Component Analysis and composite analysis circulation fields. The associated dynamics are analyzed using 20th century ERA-20C reanalysis. It found that main climatic processes related to anomalies are: (1) intensity position Atlantic Convergence Zone (SACZ); (2) El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO); (3) meridional Intertropical (ITCZ), which be Sea Surface Temperature (SST) anomalies; (4) strength American Monsoon System, especially Low-Level Jet (SALLJ). Interestingly, all operate from Ocean, except for ENSO. Results present study agreement with state art literature about region. However, added longer dataset larger area improves knowledge gives new insights into how climate variability resulting America.

OF DISSERTATION BIOPHYSICAL BEHAVIOR IN TROPICAL SOUTH AMERICA The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is rising, in response to human activities such as consumption of fossil fuel, cement production, and land cover change. This increase is mitigated by the fact that currently, approximately one-half of the CO2 of anthropogenic origin does not take up permanent residence in the atmosphere, b...
متن کاملHow well can CMIP5 simulate precipitation and its controlling processes over tropical South America?
Underestimated rainfall over Amazonia was a common problem for the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 3 (CMIP3) models. We investigate whether it still exists in the CMIP phase 5 (CMIP5) models and, if so, what causes these biases? Our evaluation of historical simulations shows that some models still underestimate rainfall over Amazonia. During the dry season, both convective and large...
متن کاملStatistical properties of aerosol-cloud-precipitation interactions in South America
Given the complex interaction between aerosol, cloud, and atmospheric properties, it is difficult to extract their individual effects to observed rainfall amount. This research uses principle component analysis (PCA) that combines Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aerosol and cloud products, NCEP Reanalysis atmospheric products, and rainrate estimates from the Tropical Rainf...
متن کاملThe Role of Tropical Cyclones in Precipitation Over the Tropical and Subtropical North America
Tropical cyclones (TCs) are essential elements of the hydrological cycle in tropical and subtropical regions. In the present study, the contribution of TCs to seasonal precipitation around the tropical and subtropical North America is examined. When TC activity over the tropical eastern Pacific (TEP) or the Intra Americas Seas (IAS) is below (abovenormal), regional precipitation may be below (a...
متن کاملDownscaling extreme month-long anomalies in southern South America
We investigate the performance of one stretched-grid atmospheric global model, five different regional climate models and a statistical downscaling technique in simulating 3 months (January 1971, November 1986, July 1996) characterized by anomalous climate conditions in the southern La Plata Basin. Models were driven by reanalysis (ERA-40). The analysis has emphasized on the simulation of the p...
